(Video interview) WWE’s Alberto Del Rio in Miami, Tampa for Raw, SmackDown after Royal Rumble in Orlando
It’s been a busy WWE Florida tour for WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio, wrapping up in Tampa on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
WWE Monday Night Raw in Miami occurred Jan. 25 at the AmericanAirlines Arena, and the former South Florida resident Alberto Del Rio was there. The night before Raw at the Royal Rumble in Orlando, Del Rio had dual duties. Kalisto regained the U.S. title by beating Del Rio at the Royal Rumble in the latest of this see-saw exchange of the belt.
Del Rio also participated in the 30-man Royal Rumble battle royal. He drew No.26 of 30 but was eliminated 23rd by Roman Reigns. Though, he and his League of Nations cohorts did make an impact by teaming to destroy Reigns outside the ring, pleasing WWE CEO/Chairman Vincent Kennedy McMahon. The boss was so happy that they shared a group hug at ringside, which upset a lively crowd at the Amway Center.
On Raw in Miami, the League of Nations (Rusev and Sheamus with Wade Barrett and Del Rio) battled Dean Ambrose and Reigns in the main event. What will happen at The SmackDown TV tapings? They are Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
Del Rio hails from a legendary wrestling family. A good family man, he starred in Mexico as a luchador and transitioned successfully into the American sports entertainment version. A multi-time champion, he has not only wrestled all over the world but has wrestled many of the top stars throughout the world.
In AAA and CMLL in Mexico, Del Rio wrestled with a mask, a very important symbol of Mexican Lucha culture. In WWE, he has competed without it, becoming a top heel in the process and one of the company’s best overall talents in the ring and on the mic. His arrogant demeanor angers fans, eliciting many boos and jeers, which means he is doing his job exceptionally well, and he loves it.
