Kaun, a ROH six-man tag champ, is enjoying life in the other Khan’s pro wrestling world

Having a name that sounds like Khan is beneficial in today’s pro wrestling market.

Kaun, the pro wrestler, quickly captured the attention of Khan, the pro wrestling owner, and now Kaun is an integral part of Khan’s Ring of Honor. He is one-third of the ROH six-man tag team champions along with Toa Liona and Brian Cage. Collectively the powerhouse trio is The Embassy, led by Prince Nana.

In my video interview with Kaun, he discusses the ROH Six-Man Tag Titles, Tony Khan, The Embassy, MCW, Ladder, College, High School, Chucky and more.

The Embassy won the ROH six-man tag team titles by defeating Dalton Castle and The Boys during ROH Final Battle on Dec. 10, 2022 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Ring of Honor is now owned by Tony Khan, who also leads AEW.

From a Khan to a Kaun, it seemed fitting, especially by name, that Kaun debuted in All Elite Wrestling a year prior in December 2021, wrestling on AEW Dark: Elevation. In AEW, a match with Adam Cole, a pro’s pro, also helped springboard Kaun’s ascension.

Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kaun is a graduate of Washburn High School, where he competed in basketball, football and track. A former soccer player, he enjoyed Cameroon upsetting Brazil in the 2022 World Cup. He is proud of his Cameroonian roots on his father’s side. By the way, his dad coached him in youth soccer. He played a lot of soccer as a kid, but by high school, he wanted to test himself in other sports.

Kaun was a member of the NCAA Division III football team for Luther College, a private Lutheran liberal arts college in Decorah, Iowa. He earned his bachelor’s degree in fine arts and his Master’s in graphic design.

Kaun worked in the business world (9-5) before turning his attention to pro wrestling as a career option.

Kaun recalled: “Going to the office every day, I was like, ‘Aw, this is not it for me. I watched some old WWE documentaries which made me feel like I did, when I was a kid. I got goosebumps. I thought, ‘I need to go for this dream.’ If I don’t go for this, I’m going to regret it. So I signed up.”

Kaun continued: “Within a year and a half, I had my Ring of Honor tryout, and I was just like, ‘Oh, I was meant to be here.’”

Kaun grew up a pro wrestling fan, his favs The Hardy Boyz, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, The Rock.

Kaun said: “I hope to meet him [The Rock] someday, because that’s the bull’s-eye that I’m aiming for.”

At age 27 in 2017, Kaun began training at the Maryland Championship Wrestling professional wrestling school. He spent the early years of his career primarily wrestling for MCW, where he won the MCW Tag Team Titles with Malcolm Moses.

Kaun debuted in Ring of Honor in 2018, teaming with Moses as the Soldiers of Savagery. In 2021, he and Moses formed the stable Shane Taylor Promotions with Shane Taylor. In February 2021, the trio defeated MexiSquad to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.

Back track, Dean Gutrdige, R.J. Meyer and Joey Mercury trained him at MCW; so when Mercury landed in Ring of Honor, training aspiring wrestlers at the ROH Dojo, a door opened for Kaun. Right place, right time, right trainer.

The impressive-looking and athletic Kaun immediately made an impact.Ring of Honor’s Kaun has joined the team at Ladder, the sports nutrition brand founded by athletes/celebs/businessmen LeBron James and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
