The Carlson twins bringing the Miami Sweet Heat to WOW. These WXW alum are businesswomen, too

WOW — Women Of Wrestling, the world’s premier all-female sports entertainment entity owned by NBA Los Angeles Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss, premiered a new season nationwide the weekend of Sept. 17.

In South Florida, My 33 (WBSF-TV, Ch.33) at 11 p.m. EST Saturdays and CBS-4 (WFOR-TV, Ch.4, Dolphins game permitting) at 1 p.m. EST Sundays broadcast the weekly show, and this season has an interesting Florida connection with South Florida naming rights.

The Carlson Twins (Laurie and Lindsey) are two of the newest additions to the WOW - Women of Wrestling roster, where they are known as Miami Sweet Heat.

Sporting NFL Miami Dolphins-type coloring, these two athletes and businesswomen originally from Nebraska are the embodiment of a WOW superhero — two athletic, smart, charismatic talents who are positive role models.

Not only do they compete for WOW, but as college-graduated occupational therapists, they own their own business in Tampa, titled Carlson Care Therapy LLC.

In my audio interview with Miami Sweet Heat, aka the Carlson Twins (Laurie and Lindsey), they discuss their pro wrestling journey, WXW, Afa the Wild Samoan, college, owning their own business, Jeanie Buss, WOW, their wrestling name, family and more.

Hailing from Hooper, Nebraska, they excelled in hoops, ironically, and parlayed their basketball skills at Logan View High School (Raiders) into an athletic scholarship at College of Saint Mary (Flames) in Omaha, Nebraska. That’s where they earned a degree in occupational therapy, before advancing and completing a master’s program.

BTW, Laurie and Lindsey weren’t the only twins in classes at Logan View High School. They were one of 10 sets of twins at the school. Quite unusual. Must be something in the Hooper water.

Loving the sun and the fun and the beach, these two small-town farm girls dreamed of moving to Florida; so that’s what they did, pursuing a career in their major. Pro wrestling happened by chance.

One of their good friends from Nebraska trained at WXW, owned by WWE Hall of Famer Afa the Wild Samoan and his family in Pennsylvania. When the friend learned they wanted to pursue pro wrestling, he said you must go to train at WXW. Well, there is a second Afa the Wild Samoan and family-led WXW location in Minneola, north of Orlando in Florida. Perfect.

After training and wrestling on the Florida indies, including WXW shows, the Carlson Twins (aka GHL Twins - Go Hard Life), they noticed tryouts for WOW in Miami. Covid put a damper on those plans, canceling the tryout, but WOW creator David McLane (also creator of GLOW) contacted them and eventually flew them to California. They became Miami Sweet Heat, a name originating from WOW head trainer/creative director Selina Majors.

Miami Sweet Heat made an impressive WOW TV debut by defeating the Heavy Metal Sisters (Fury and Mezmeriah) with Razor in the first round of the WOW Tag Team Title Tournament.
