Mocco Wrestling at ATT is producing top talent at all levels, including Steve Mocco’s two sons

Steve Mocco is one of the top wrestling coaches in the world, leading Mocco Wrestling at the prestigious American Top Team in South Florida in Coconut Creek.

Mocco, who finished fifth at the 2008 Summer Olympics in freestyle, is a two-time NCAA national champion, four-time finalist and Dan Hodge Trophy winner. He was also a three-time Pan American Champion.

Following his very impressive amateur career, which included wrestling for college wrestling powers Iowa and Oklahoma State, he became an MMA fighter, competing for the WSOF.

Coaching at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is also part of a stellar resume for this North Bergen, New Jersey-born athlete.

Through Mocco Wrestling at American Top Team, he not only coaches top MMA fighters training in wrestling at ATT but also amateur MMA fighters and amateur wrestlers from adults to youth, including his two sons.

Here is my video interview with Coach Steve Mocco and his two sons, Peter and Michael. This was prior to the FHSAA high school post-season.

Mocco’s boys are doing extremely well on the tournament and high school circuits. Peter, a sixth-grader, competes for the Coral Springs Charter School junior varsity and varsity wrestling teams, and Michael, as an eighth-grader, proved to be a state title contender on the high school varsity level for Coral Springs Charter and Coach Eric Perez.

Michael went 46-3 this season for CSC, including competing against juniors and seniors. At the BCAA Championships (Broward County), he went undefeated to win the title at 182 pounds. Michael was also named one of three Most Outstanding Wrestlers at that BCAA event.

Last season Michael also wrestled varsity as a seventh-grader but at 152 pounds. He went 18-11, placing second at districts and was one win from qualifying for state. Peter placed third at the Broward County JV Tournament this season at 152 pounds.

At districts this season, MIchael was second at 182, and Peter, wrestling varsity for that tournament, was fourth at 152. The brothers qualified for regionals.

At regionals, Michael avenged his district final loss to American Heritage-Delray senior Joseph Nicolosi to win the region championship and advance to state.

At state, Michael reached the state semifinals where he lost by two points to the defending state champ Lance Schyck, a senior for Lemon Bay. Schyck won another state title, beating Nicolosi in a rematch of last year’s final. Mocco battled back to take third.

NOTE: Omer Barak and Frankie Florio of American Heritage-Delray Beach High School also train at Mocca Wrestling at ATT. At state, Florio won a state title at 132, and Barak was fourth at 160. Ethan Vergara of Mater Lakes Academy-Hialeah trains there, too, and he won state at 285.

Brothers Michael and Peter Mocco are already college prospects with Olympic aspirations. Peter, 13, was born in Iowa and would like to wrestle for Iowa, and Michael, 14, birthed in Oklahoma, is interested in Oklahoma State.

Steve and his wife, Katie, also have three daughters (Mary, Anna, Julia). The Matriarch of Mocco Wrestling, Katie was a track star in college, and she now runs this happy family at home and in the gym.

Interested in learning to wrestle, amateur style, from one of the best. Mocco Wrestling at American Top Team is on U.S. St. Rd. 7/441 in Coconut Creek.
