Julianna Pena talks for Combate Global and fights for UFC, challenging ATT’s Amanda Nunes

Legit UFC fighter Julianna Pena, also a Combate Global MMA broadcaster, battles G.O.A.T. and double champ Amanda Nunes for the UFC bantamweight title in the co-main event of UFC 269 on Saturday via ESPN+ from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

They were scheduled to battle at UFC 265 on Aug. 7 on ESPN+ from the Toyota Center in Houston, but Nunes was diagnosed with Covid, and the fight was postponed.

Dec. 11 is the new day.

The 31-year-old Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Pena (11-4) is from Spokane, Washington, training at LCCT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, near Chicago. In 2013, she became the first woman to win the UFC Ultimate Fighter. She is ranked No.3 in the division.

The 33-year-old Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes (21-4) is from Pojuca, Bahia, Brazil, training at American Top Team in Coconut Creek. She is on a 12-fight win streak.

Prior to UFC 265 (pre-Nunes Covid), I spoke with Pena at Combate Global in Miami.

Here is Part 2 on my video interview with Julianna Pena.

In the other co-main event of UFC 269, Dustin Poirier, also of American Top Team, challenges lightweight champ Charles Oliveira.

The Baszler Effect

Before she became a WWE Superstar, Shayna Baszler competed in MMA. A tough combatant, she fought Pena in the UFC Ultimate Fighter in 2013 and Nunes in a UFC Fight Night in 2015.

At the UFC Ultimate Fighter, Baszler was a member of Team Ronda Rousey. WWE alum Jessamyn Duke was also on Team Rousey, and WWE alum Marina Shafir was one of the coaches.

Pena competed for Team Miesha Tate.

Pena beat Baszler via submission (rear-naked choke). Nunes beat Baszler via TKO (leg kick).
