From a famed pro wrestling family, this legend started a Facebook Fan Page during pandemic

Paul “The Butcher” Vachon is a Hall of Fame wrestler, a throat cancer survivor, a Canadian, a former South Floridian, a singer, a promoter and a wrestling legend from one of the most famous wrestling families in history.

During the pandemic, Vachon, 82, and his wife, Dee, started a Facebook fan page through those involved in his movie project “The Last Villain.”

A documentary, “The Last Villain” tells the story of the Vachons, derived from The Butcher’s autobiographies: “When Wrestling Was Real” and “Wrestling with The Past.”

Interviewing The Butcher

In Part 1 of my audio interview with Paul “The Butcher” Vachon, he discusses Mad Dog Vachon, their father, Montreal police, their honored brother, Stu Hart, the Rougeaus, ice hockey, Montreal Canadians, “Boom Boom” Geoffrion, amateur wrestling, and more.

In Part 2 of my audio interview with Paul The Butcher Vachon, he not only sings but he talks about singing, Pat Patterson, High Chief Peter Maivia, Ata Maivia Johnson, Rocky Johnson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, South Florida, Luna Vachon, Abdullah the Butcher, CWF, and more.

More about Paul “The Butcher” Vachon

Originally from Montreal, Vachon was one of 13 children. His father was a stand-up Montreal police officer, husband and father. His brother, Arthur, became a Montreal police officer, too, and there is a building named after him.

Vachon has traveled around the world, wrestling in the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. He followed in the footsteps of his Hall of Fame brother Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon. Their sister, Vivian, also wrestled, and Vachon’s adopted daughter, Luna, famously wrestled as well.

During his heyday, Vachon wrestled for Championship Wrestling from Florida and became a snowbird, like many Canadians, with a condo in South Florida. Luna also stayed at that condo in Pompano Beach.

The Vachons (The Butcher and Mad Dog) won many tag team titles, including the AWA tag team titles (twice), Mid-Atlantic NWA Southern tag team titles, Mid-South NWA World tag team titles, NWA Texas tag team titles, and Stampede Wrestling NWA Canadian tag team titles (three times) and Stampede Wrestling NWA International tag team titles (three times).

Vachon wrestled many top stars including Andre the Giant, Bob Backlund, Dino Bravo, Jack Brisco, Dick The Bruiser, Crusher, King Curtis, Tony Garea, Eddie Graham, Mike Graham, Rocky Johnson, Paul Jones, Steve Keirn, Jos LeDuc, High Chief Peter Maivia, Mil Mascaras, Pedro Morales, Paul Orndorff, Ivan Putski, Dusty Rhodes, Louie Tillet, Larry Zbyszko, and The Destroyer (Dick Beyer) and more.

Despite all his accolades and accomplishments, and there are many, he never wrestled in the famed Montreal Forum. He promoted wrestling there, and many of the NHL Montreal Canadians were fans, attending those shows. The legendary “Boom Boom” Geoffrion even participated in a match as a heel referee.

Vachon was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in 2004 and the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010. A proud Cauliflower Alley Club member, Vachon and wife, Dee, a former U.S. Marine, reside in Quebec.
