Honoring Douglas hero to air Friday on ‘Military Makeover with Montel’ and WWE Lacey Evans

Friday is the tragic two-year anniversary of the Parkland mass shooting at Douglas High School.

Debbi Hixon — wife of hero Chris Hixon, the athletic director who tried to save the kids at the school — and their special needs son, Cory, received a complete home makeover from the show “Military Makeover with Montel Williams” and special guest WWE superstar and U.S. Marine Lacey Evans.

Chris, a military veteran, was laid to rest with military funeral honors.

Here is why this family was chosen for a Military Makeover.

In December, Military Makeover did a complete renovation on the Hixon home in Hollywood. Debbi is also running for Broward County School Board and cares for her special needs son, Cory, who was a big part of the makeover. Cory’s room was inspired by his love for prayer and church.

That special Military Makeover episode (via BrandStar) will air on Lifetime TV at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.

The MSD tragedy occurred Feb. 14, 2018.

Season 21 of “Military Makeover with Montel” (and WWE Superstar Lacey Evans) premieres Friday with the Hixon family home renovation on Lifetime TV, and that episode later replays on Feb. 18.

All previously aired episodes of “Military Makeover with Montel” (including others with WWE Superstar Lacey Evans) can be viewed on www.militarymakeover.tv or BrandStar.tv.

About the Hixons

Hixon, a 27-year military veteran (5 active, 22 reserve) who served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield in the U.S. Navy, sacrificed his life on Feb. 14, 2018. An athletic director at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, he tried to save the lives of students by disarming an active shooter.

Hixon is survived by his wife, Debra, and their two sons, Thomas and Corey, and they live in Hollywood.

He received military funeral honors before he was laid to rest at age 49.

“He loved being American and serving his country, and he instilled it in his students,” Debra said in a release.

Debra is a 29-year teacher in the Broward County School System and serves as a Magnet Coordinator.

Prior to joining the Douglas High School staff, Chris worked for South Broward High School in Hollywood, where they made residence. He also worked at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach.

In true Military Makeover style, U.S. military veteran and show host Montel Williams, the cast and crew, Evans and equally passionate national brands (Simon and Goodman Manufacturing) along with local companies (City Furniture and Allied Kitchen and Bath https://www.alliedkitchenandbath.com/) came equipped with building supplies, designs, furniture, gifts and more.

Military Makeover invited volunteers to step up and lend a hand in support of the Hixon family throughout the renovation process. The final reveal united the entire community, cast, brand partners and volunteers, creating a true “community celebration” of support for the transformation they have created together.

About WWE Superstar Lacey Evans

Known as The Lady of WWE and the Sassy Southern Belle, Evans has experience in the house building field and thus joined the volunteer team to work on the Hixon home project.

Evans, 29, grew up in Vero Beach, about 100 miles north of Parkland. Her husband did, as well.

While active duty in the military, she and her husband opened a construction company.

Overcoming a rough childhood, Evans served in the U.S. military, becoming an MP and earning the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Marines. Her tour of duty included Paris Island, South Carolina, the actual military home base of WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter.

Evans is a graduate of Vero Beach High School, where she wrestled against girls, qualifying for nationals. She competed against boys, too, in various tournaments.

WWE alum Terry Taylor, a coach at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, also graduated from Vero Beach High School.

Evans is also a graduate of the WWE Performance Center, under the tutelage of assistant head coach/producer Sara Amato (Sara Del Rey) in Orlando.

In November, Evans made history along with WWE Superstar Natalya as they became the first women to wrestle in Saudi Arabia. Quite an accomplishment, they’ve inspired girls and women in that country as well as girls and women around the world.
