Open mic night with BMF champ, UFC star, ATT fighter Jorge Masvidal at Combate Americas PPV
He pulls no punches in the octagon or away from it, and Saturday he looks to do the same, doing and saying it his way.
BMF Champ Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal will serve as a color commentator for the highly-anticipated ‘Tito vs. Alberto – What Side Are You On’ extravaganza, live on pay-per-view television (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) Saturday for Combate Americas MMA in McAllen, Texas on the border of the United States and Mexico.
Masvidal, a UFC star, American Top Team fighter and Miami native, will join ranked UFC competitor Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña and play-by-play veteran Max Bretos in the broadcast booth at Payne Arena to call the action for the star-studded, 11-fight card.
It marks the English commentary debut of Masvidal and the inaugural pay-per-view of Combate Americas, the world’s premier Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts sports and media franchise.
The headlining bout is a 210-pound showdown between UFC Hall of Famer and former World Light Heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz (20-12-1) of Huntington Beach, California against multiple-time WWE title holder and former PRIDE and DEEP MMA fighter Alberto Del Rio “El Patrón” Rodriguez (9-5) of San Antonio, Texas by way of San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico.
“The UFC’s BMF champ Jorge Masvidal is joining forces with MMA’s dynamic duo of Julianna Peña and Max Bretos to form the most explosive commentary team in the sport this Saturday for the biggest fight of the year,” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren said in a release.
Ortiz, who wrestled for Impact Wrestling, is putting his UFC title belt on the line and Del Rio his WWE title in a winner-take-all battle for the belts, bragging rights and pride.
Masvidal knows something about winning for belts, bragging rights and pride.
In an audio interview on Friday with Masvidal, he discusses working on mic for Combate Americas, calling the action his way, Tito Ortiz vs. Alberto Del Rio, meeting The Rock before and after beating Nate Diaz for the BMF title at UFC 244, American Top Team’s Dan Lambert, WWE, cross-over appeal, counting out Ben Askren.
Also, boxer, pro wrestler and new MMA fighter Sexy Star Dulce Garcia faces Anali Lopez Hernandez (0-0), who replaces injured Marisol Ruelas (1-2), in a featured women’s 118-pound catchweight contest.
Plus, Combate Americas world strawweight (115 pounds) championship battle, undefeated knockout artist Melissa “Super Mely” Martinez (6-0) faces ferocious star Desiree “Dirty Dez” Yanez (5-1).
Former World Champion Dani Barez (11-4) collides with Joao Camilo (6-3), who replaces injured Joby Sanchez (13-5) at flyweight.
Levy “El Negro” Marroquin (12-3) vs. Enrique “Baby Bull” Gonzalez (8-3) at featherweight.
Gaston “Tonga” Reyno (8-2, 2 NC) vs. Rey “The Warrior” Trujillo (24-27), who replaces injured Angel “Tito” Cruz (6-4) in a 150-pound catchweight bout.
Priced at $29.99, the Combate Americas ‘Tito vs. Alberto – What Side Are You On?’ is available live on pay-per-view television, in every home in the United States, on cable television on inDemand (Comcast, Charter and COX) and U-Verse, and satellite providers DIRECTV and DISH TV.
The pay-per-view event is also available globally online, OTT and via the FITE TV app, as well as on Playstation.
