Military Makeover with WWE’s Lacey Evans and family brightens day of Douglas hero’s family

WWE Superstar Lacey Evans, who served in the U.S. Marines, made her third guest appearance on Military Makeover with Montel by traveling to familiar terrain (South Florida) to help the family of hero Chris Hixon.

Hixon, a 27-year military veteran (5 active, 22 reserve) who served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield in the U.S. Navy, sacrificed his life on Feb. 14, 2018. An athletic director at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, he tried to save the lives of students by disarming an active shooter.

Hixon is survived by his wife, Debra, and their two sons, Thomas and Corey, and they live in Hollywood.

As a very generous and heartfelt gift and thank you to Hixon and his family, Military Makeover redesigned/upgraded their home in 10 days (Dec. 3-12).

Amazing.

Evans, who has experience in construction, was honored to be part of this home makeover. She, her husband, Alfonso, and their daughter, Summer, pitched in, too.

Lacey and Alfonso grew up in South Florida, and they later started a construction company. When she was a youth, her father also worked in construction.

About the Hixons

Hixon received Military Funeral Honors before he was laid to rest at age 49.

“He loved being American and serving his country, and he instilled it in his students,” Debra said in a release.

Debra is a 29-year teacher in the Broward County School System and serves as a Magnet Coordinator.

Prior to joining the Douglas High School staff, Chris worked for South Broward High School in Hollywood, where they made residence.

In true Military Makeover style, U.S. military veteran and show host Montel Williams, the cast and crew, Evans and equally passionate national brands, Simon and Goodman Manufacturing, along with local companies, City Furniture and Allied Kitchen and Bath, came equipped with building supplies, designs, furniture, gifts and more.

Military Makeover invited volunteers to step up and lend a hand in support of the Hixon family throughout the renovation process. The final reveal united the entire community, cast, brand partners and volunteers, creating a true “community celebration” of support for the transformation they have created together.

Mascot Games champion Stanley C. Panther of the NHL Florida Panthers also participated in the celebration.

During the week, Evans (along with Edmonds) presented a WWE championship belt to Corey Hixon at Gangrel’s Wrestling Asylum training center in nearby Dania Beach.

Talk about a nice week. The day after their Military Makeover celebration, Debra and Corey attended a GWA pro wrestling show at Stage 954 at the Casino at Dania Beach, and Debra won the 50-50 raffle.

They also met South Florida’s Zack Gottsagen, co-star of the 2019 movie “The Peanut Butter Falcon.” who helped with the 50-50 drawing.

About WWE Superstar Lacey Evans

Known as The Lady of WWE and the Sassy Southern Belle, Evans has experience in the house building field and thus joined the volunteer team to work on the Hixon home project.

Evans, 29, grew up in Vero Beach, about 100 miles north of Parkland. Her husband did, as well.

While active duty in the military, she and her husband opened a construction company.

Overcoming a rough childhood, Evans served in the U.S. military, becoming an MP and earning the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Marines. Her tour of duty included Paris Island, South Carolina, the actual military home base of WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter.

Evans is a graduate of Vero Beach High School, where she wrestled against girls, qualifying for nationals. She competed against boys, too, in various tournaments.

Evans is also a graduate of the WWE Performance Center, under the tutelage of assistant head coach/producer Sara Amato (Sara Del Rey) in Orlando.

In November, Evans made history along with WWE Superstar Natalya as they became the first women to wrestle in Saudi Arabia. Quite an accomplishment, they’ve inspired girls and women in that country as well as girls and women around the world.
