Florida Gators’ Tyrie Cleveland goes to Denver Broncos in seventh round of NFL Draft

The Denver Broncos selected University of Florida Gators wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland in the seventh round — No. 252 overall — of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Cleveland, a four-year contributor at UF, finished his Gators career with 1,271 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 79 catches in 46 games (26 starts).

The biggest of those catches very well might have been his last one against Tennessee as a sophomore in 2017 when he reeled in a 63-yard, go-ahead touchdown pass from Feleipe Franks as time expired to lift UF to a 26-20 win.

The 6-2, 209-pound receiver was also an active part of Florida’s special teams units, a role that will assuredly continue should he crack an NFL roster.

“He has adequate hands and solid short-area athleticism underneath, but lacks the burst and physicality needed to open windows and make contested catches,” NFL analyst Lance Zierlein wrote in his combine report. “His size is a plus and his effort on special teams could become an important differentiator if he is to make a roster or practice squad.”
