Hurricanes add secondary depth through portal. What to know about latest addition
The Miami Hurricanes continue to bolster their secondary depth.
UM’s latest addition via the transfer portal, according to on3 on Tuesday: Safety Conrad Hussey, a former standout at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas whose college career has included stops at Florida State and Oregon State.
Hussey, a four-star prospect out of high school in the Class of 2023, spent his first two seasons at FSU, where he recorded 40 tackles with one interception, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over 24 games.
He was dismissed from the team prior to his junior year for what CBS Sports reported was because of an incident that occurred with a position coach during practice.
“He’s been dismissed from the team,” FSU coach Mike Norvell said in August when announcing Hussey’s departure from the Seminoles. “Obviously grateful for the time we’ve been able to be together. At the end of the day, it’s a decision that was made.”
Hussey landed at Oregon State, where he played in just three games and 47 total defensive snaps. He logged five tackles, split a tackle for loss and had a pass breakup in those games against Oregon, Houston and Appalachian State, not seeing the field after Oct. 4.
Hussey joins a Hurricanes safeties room that features Zechariah Poyser, Bryce Fitzgerald, Omar Thornton, and Dylan Day.
He is Miami’s 10th addition via the transfer portal, joining defensive linemen Damon Wilson II (Missouri), Keona Davis (Nebraska) and Jarquez Carter (Ohio State); wide receivers Cam Vaughn (West Virginia) and Vandrevius Jacobs (South Carolina); Thornton (Boston College); offensive lineman Jamal Meriweather (Georgia); and kickers Jake Weinberg (Florida State) and Jack Olsen (Northwestern).
UM is expected to land Duke quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate as well. Both are reportedly visiting Miami on Tuesday.
