Eye on the U: Breaking down the Mensah news and Miami’s 2026 schedule

The Miami Hurricanes have closed in on their quarterback for the 2026 season.

Speaking of closing, the transfer portal has closed to newcomers as well and Miami has done its part to round out its team for next season to build on a run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

Now, it’s more or less a waiting game until spring football starts up in March.

On the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez take a look at the state of the Hurricanes with the offseason in full swing. The big news is on quarterback Darian Mensah, who reached an out-of-court settlement with Duke that allows him to transfer — and formally allowed him to commit to Miami.

(Editor’s note: This episode was recorded early Tuesday afternoon before Mensah formally committed.)

From there, they take a quick look at Miami’s other portal pickups and departures, with the net result more positive than negative.

Finally, they take a look at Miami’s schedule for the 2026 season that was released on Monday.
