The Miami Hurricanes will open the 2026 season with a cross-country trip and a Friday-night kickoff.

Miami’s season-opening opponent the year after reaching the national championship game, as released Monday night: A road game at the Stanford Cardinal on Friday, Sept. 4. It will be the Hurricanes’ first time playing at Stanford in football after the teams played for the first time on the gridiron last season in Miami.

It’s also the first of three road Atlantic Coast Conference games for the Hurricanes over their first five weeks of the season, which also includes another Friday game at Wake Forest on Sept. 18 (UM’s first trip to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, since 2009) and a trip to Clemson on Oct. 3 before the team’s only bye week of the season. UM has home non-conference games on Sept. 10 against Florida A&M (a Thursday) and Sept. 26 against Central Michigan in between the road trips.

It’s a bit of a role reversal for the Hurricanes compared to the 2025 season, when UM was home for its first four games and six of its first seven overall before finishing with three of its final five regular-season games on the road.

Five of Miami’s final seven games after the bye are at Hard Rock Stadium: ACC games against Florida State (Oct. 17), Pittsburgh (Oct. 24), Duke (Nov. 14), Virginia Tech (Nov. 20) and Boston College (Nov. 28). The only road games on the back half of the schedule are trips on back-to-back weekends to North Carolina on Oct. 31 and Notre Dame on Nov. 7.

The ACC Championship Game this year will be on Dec. 5, with kickoff from Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium set for noon — moving the league’s title game out of the nighttime window for the first time since 2020 when the game kicked off at 4 p.m. The ACC Championship Game has also previously kicked off at 1 p.m. in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons.

“We are excited this year’s ACC Football Championship Game will be a noon kickoff on ABC as it places our game in an exceptional television window and allows for our attending fans the opportunity to experience an afternoon game in Bank of America Stadium,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said in a press release. “Being the first conference championship to kick off on Championship Saturday allows us to lead the day on a national stage, showcase our student-athletes and programs and deliver a marquee event to fans across the country.”

Miami finished the 2025 season with a 13-3 record. The Hurricanes were the only ACC team to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff and advanced to the title game with wins over Texas A&M, Ohio State and Ole Miss in the first three rounds.
