Miami Hurricanes land commitment from top edge rusher prospect in portal
The Miami Hurricanes on Thursday landed a commitment from edge rusher Damon Wilson II, who had a breakout season with the Missouri Tigers and will provide a veteran presence at a position where UM is losing top-end talent.
Wilson, who is listed as the No. 8 overall prospect in the portal according to 247Sports and visited Miami on Tuesday, led Missouri last season with nine sacks, which ranked tied for third in the Southeastern Conference. He also had 54 quarterback pressures on the season according to Pro Football Focus.
Over three seasons, Wilson has totaled 47 tackles, 12.5 sacks, one interception, two pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
Miami is losing both of its top edge rushers from last season in Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor, both of whom very well could be first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Hurricanes have internal depth at edge rusher in Marquise Lightfoot, Armondo Blount, Hayden Lowe and Herbert Scroggins III, but are now getting an experienced player to supplement their youth at the position. Texas Tech and LSU were among the other teams pursuing Wilson.
Wilson is the Hurricanes’ seventh portal commitments this cycle, joining wide receivers Cam Vaughn (West Virginia) and Vandrevius Jacobs (South Carolina), defensive back Omar Thornton (Boston College), defensive lineman Jarquez Carter (Ohio State), and kickers Jake Weinberg (Florida State) and Jack Olsen (Northwestern).
