Eye on the U: The National Championship Episode. Can Miami win it all vs. Indiana?

The Miami Hurricanes are playing for a national championship.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Let it resonate.

This is a moment Hurricanes fans have waited on for nearly a quarter-century.

And now it’s here.

The Miami Hurricanes are playing for a national championship.

The No. 10 Hurricanes (13-2), the last at-large team to make the 12-team College Football Playoff field, will face the No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers (15-0) on Monday at Hard Rock Stadium — UM’s home stadium — for a chance at the program’s sixth national title and first since 2001.

It was far from an easy road for the Hurricanes to get here. They overcame a three-week midseason lapse in which they dropped two games and seemed to be dead in the water by rolling through their final four regular season games to sneak into the field.

And then they beat the Texas A&M Aggies in the first round.

And then they beat the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the quarterfinals.

And then they held on in a chaotic, frantic finish to beat the Ole Miss Rebels in the semifinals.

Can they pull off one more magical win to cap a magical season?

On the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez break down the matchup with Indiana and reflect on the run that has been for Miami. They also quickly talk the transfer portal because preparation for the future never stops in college football, even for teams that are finishing their season.
