Hurricanes land Ohio State defensive lineman transfer for fourth portal pickup
The Miami Hurricanes continue to make moves in the transfer portal as they simultaneously prepare for the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Defensive lineman Jarquez Carter, who just finished his true freshman season at Ohio State, on Monday committed to the Hurricanes. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Carter, listed at 6-2 and 290 pounds, was a four-star prospect out of Newberry High in north-central Florida, according to the 247Sports composite ranking. He was high-school teammates with current UM defensive lineman Mykah Newton.
He played in six games for the Buckeyes, who lost in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals to the Hurricanes.
Carter is the fourth transfer portal player to commit to the Hurricanes this cycle, joining wide receivers Cam Vaughn and Vandrevius Jacobs as well as defensive back Omar Thornton.
He will help replenish Miami’s depth at defensive tackle. The Hurricanes are slated to lose David Blay, who is out of eligibility after this season. Reserve defensive tackle Donta Simpson also transferred out.
