Hurricanes keep portal momentum going, adding second receiver in as many days
The Miami Hurricanes have added their second transfer portal wide receiver commitment in as many days.
Former West Virginia wide receiver Cam Vaughn will be the latest veteran pass-catcher to make his way to Miami, ESPN reported Sunday. This comes one day after South Carolina wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs also opted to transfer to the Hurricanes.
Vaughn, rated as the No. 29 wide receiver prospect in the portal this cycle by 247Sports, caught 35 passes for 540 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games for West Virginia this season. He started his career at Jacksonville State, where he earned All-Conference USA honors after hauling in 48 catches for 803 yards and five touchdowns. Vaughn has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
He was one of seven players the Hurricanes hosted this weekend, according to 247Sports. Former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt headlines that group. The others beyond Leavitt and Vaughn: Former Pittsburgh linebacker Rasheem Biles (who has since committed to Texas), former Tennessee edge rusher Caleb Herring, former South Carolina offensive lineman Josiah Thompson, former Georgia tight end Pearce Spurlin and former Northwestern kicker Jack Olsen.
Vaughn and Jacobs will help Miami reload at wide receiver after two of UM’s top pass catchers from this season in CJ Daniels and Keelan Marion are out of collegiate eligibility after 2025.
They’ll join a receiver room that is led by second-team All-American and ACC Rookie of the Year Malachi Toney. Fellow true freshman Joshua Moore should be in line for a bigger role next season as well. Miami also has a talented incoming class of freshman receivers that includes Somourian Wingo, Milan Parris, Vince Spafford and Tyran Evans.
Three Hurricanes receivers transferred out of the program in Ny Carr (signed with Wake Forest), Ray Ray Joseph (committed to East Carolina) and Chance Robinson (committed to NC State).
The Hurricanes have three total transfer additions so far this cycle, with defensive back Omar Thornton also committing to Miami on Saturday.
