The Miami Hurricanes on Monday night missed out on a potential game-changer of a recruit — to the team they’ll be playing in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Edge rusher DJ Jacobs, a five-star recruit who is tabbed by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall prospect for the Class of 2027 and the No. 8 overall player according to the 247Sports composite ranking, announced his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday night.

No. 10 Miami and No. 2 Ohio State play in the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday.

Jacobs, who announced his decision on CBS Sports HQ, chose Ohio State over Miami, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Oregon and Alabama.

Jacobs, who announced his commitment on CBS Sports HQ, said he told Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day “literally 10 minutes” before announcing his decision that he was committing to Ohio State.

Jacobs said he was looking for three primary things when picking a school: Head coach stability, good education and life after football.

Jacobs has been a force all three years of high school career to this point at Roswell (Georgia) Blessed Trinity Catholic. He has 295 total tackles, 73 tackles for loss and 34 sacks to go along with five forced fumbles, according to MaxPreps. Jacobs had 102 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 games this past season.
