What first injury report says for playoff matchup between Hurricanes and Aggies
The first injury report for the Miami Hurricanes’ opening-round College Football Playoff game against the Texas A&M Aggies was unveiled Wednesday — and it’s good news for the Hurricanes.
In particular, nickel cornerback Keionte Scott was listed as probable as he attempts to get back on the field after missing the final three games of the regular season with an undisclosed lower-body injury.
Scott, who was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award given annually to college football’s top defensive back, did a little bit of everything for Miami prior to the injury. At the time he was sidelined, Scott led the Hurricanes with 10 tackles for loss and five pass breakups to go along with 43 tackles (second on the team at the time), three sacks (tied for second on the team at the time) and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal on Wednesday said Scott, who transferred to Miami this offseason, was “certainly progressing.”
“He’s getting a fair amount of reps,” Cristobal said. “And again, you know, I stated on [Monday] we were hopeful, and we still are. We feel confident in his progress and feel like he’s gaining ground towards being able to play on Saturday.”
The rest of Miami’s injury report: Cornerback Damari Brown is questionable, wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw is doubtful and linebacker Malik Bryant is out.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M running back Le’Veon Moss is listed as questionable. The senior has not played in the past six games due to an ankle injury. Prior to being sidelined, he had 389 rushing yards on 70 carries (a 5.56 yards per carry average) and six touchdowns.
Texas A&M also listed linebacker Scooby Williams and safety Bryce Anderson as probable.
Kickoff for the game from Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, is set for noon Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC.
Participating team personnel must submit availability reports three days before each game, with daily updates leading to a final report 90 minutes prior to game time.
Players are designated as “available,” “probable,” “questionable,” “doubtful,” or “out” before game day; and as “available,” “game time decision,” or “out” on game day.
