Eye on the U: Reacting to Miami making the playoffs and looking at the field
The Miami Hurricanes are in the College Football Playoff.
The Hurricanes are the No. 10 seed in the 12-team field and have a chance to compete for a national title for the first time in four years under coach Mario Cristobal.
It’s a big moment for the program, the latest step forward in the Cristobal era that has seen steady progress ever since he took over as coach of his alma mater.
Will the Hurricanes be competitive? Is there a path for them to feasibly reach the title game, which will be held Jan. 19 on their home field at Hard Rock Stadium? It starts Dec. 20 on the road at No. 7 seed Texas A&M (noon, ABC).
On the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez react to the news of the Hurricanes making the field. They also take a look at the playoff field as a whole, the committee’s decision-making — which was questionable at times — in choosing the 12 participants and, yes, give their takes on the Notre Dame debate after the Fighting Irish were left out of the field.
They also take a quick look at the latest on the UM men’s and women’s basketball teams as conference play gets closer.
