Eye on the U: The Hurricanes made their playoff case. Will the committee listen?
The Miami Hurricanes made their case. They have their resume and the talking points to back it up.
But there’s still one final factor in their way of the College Football Playoff: The 12-person selection committee.
Because UM (10-2, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) did not make the ACC Championship Game, Miami’s only hope into the 12-team field is via an at-large berth, and right now the Hurricanes are on the outside looking in.
They need the committee to have a change of heart — and for some results during conference championship weekend — to go their way to make the postseason bracket. And, perhaps most importantly, they need the committee to finally recognize the Hurricanes’ head-to-head win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, something the committee has chosen not to do through the first five rankings.
Will it happen? We’ll find out at noon Sunday.
In the meantime, on the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez break down the Hurricanes season that was, their playoff case and what’s ahead.
