Eye on the U: Miami Hurricanes enter final week of season needing a win and help

The Miami Hurricanes are still alive in the College Football Playoff race entering the final week of the regular season.

But beyond a win by No. 12 UM over the No. 22 Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday, they’ll need help if they want to cement themselves as one of the 12-teams in the playoff field when it’s all said and done.

There are conversations about comparing various two-loss teams. There are style points. There’s the eye test.

And there’s a slim chance Miami might not have to worry about anything of that if the Hurricanes can somehow, someway make it to the ACC Championship Game (yes, there are still paths) and win to secure an automatic bid.

On the latest episode of Eye on the U, Miami Herald Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and deputy sports editor Andre C. Fernandez go through all the scenarios, react to the committee’s latest rankings and reasonings, recap the win over Virginia Tech and preview the regular-season finale at Pittsburgh.
