Where the Miami Hurricanes rank in the AP poll after their win over Syracuse
The Miami Hurricanes took care of needed business on Saturday, beating the Syracuse Orange 38-10 at Hard Rock Stadium to rebound from an overtime loss to SMU the week prior.
It helped Miami inch up in the AP top 25 poll, which they hope will be a precursor for what happens when the latest round of College Football Playoff rankings are unveiled on Tuesday.
The Hurricanes checked at No. 16 in the latest AP poll, released Sunday afternoon. That’s two spots above their No. 18 ranking from last week. Miami was also No. 18 in the first of six weekly CFP rankings, the final of which will be used to determine the 12-team playoff field next month.
Three teams above Miami in the AP rankings last week lost on Saturday, with then-No. 8 BYU falling to then-No. 9 Texas Tech, then-No. 12 Virginia losing to unranked Wake Forest and then-No. 14 Louisville dropping in overtime against California.
Then-No. 19 Missouri, then-No. 22 Memphis and then-No. 24 Washington also lost.
Texas Tech moved up to No. 8
BYU fell to No. 12, Louisville to No. 19, Virginia to No. 20.
Missouri, Memphis and Washington fell out of the poll. Pittsburgh, James Madison and USF entered as Nos. 23, 24 and 25, respectively.
