Where Miami sits in ACC after Syracuse win and more chaos at the top of the standings

The No. 18 Miami Hurricanes are doing what they can to keep path to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game alive.

On Saturday, that meant beating the Syracuse Orange 38-10 at Hard Rock Stadium.

But is there a path for them to make it to the conference title game on Dec. 6 in Charlotte.

They’re still on shaky ground in that regard, even as their conference counterparts continue to keep the field open.

As conference play continues, here is a look at the current ACC landscape, including full standings for the 17-team league, each team’s remaining schedule and what it would take for Miami to get to the conference title game for just the second time and first time since 2017.

The Miami Hurricanes’ path to the ACC Championship Game

The good news for Miami: Every team in the ACC officially has at least one loss in conference play now.

The bad news for Miami: There are still five teams with only one loss.

If the season ended today, it would be Georgia Tech and Virginia in the conference title game.

Since the Hurricanes have dropped two conference games — at home against Louisville and on the road in overtime against SMU — Miami will need at least four of those teams ahead of them in the standings to drop at least one more game to put them in position to be in the conversation for the conference title game.

Four of those teams — Georgia Tech, Virginia, SMU, Pittsburgh — only have two league games left. The other, Duke, has three.

There’s still some overlap in the schedule with these teams.

Duke hosts Virginia next week.

Georgia Tech hosts Pittsburgh on Nov. 22. SMU hosts two-loss Louisville on Nov. 22 as well.

And Miami faces Pittsburgh on the road on Nov. 29.
