What Miami Hurricanes availability report says ahead of Stanford Cardinal game

The No. 9 Miami Hurricanes have a relatively clean bill of health entering their home game against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday (7 p.m., ESPN).

No Hurricanes starters or players expected to have significant roles are listed on the ACC’s first availability report for the game, which came out Thursday night. UM has six players listed as out and two listed as questionable.

The one listed as questionable: Linebacker Bobby Washington Jr., who has primarily been a special teams contributor in his UM career, and true freshman defensive lineman Mykah Newton. The six listed as out are the same as the previous two weeks: defensive lineman Hayden Lowe, wide receiver Chance Robinson, tight ends Jackson Carver and Dylan Reiman, and offensive linemen Ralph Scroggins and Demetrius Campbell.

The Hurricanes’ only public question mark among key contributors entering the week was edge rusher Akheem Mesidor, who sustained an apparent foot injury in the fourth quarter against Louisville. He returned to the game after sustaining the injury but did not look 100 percent on the field.

“Obviously, it was tough for him to finish the game,” Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal said on Monday. “He was a little bit banged up, but he seems to be on track to be healing.”

Stanford’s availability report is a little more robust and most notably lists running back Micah Ford, part of their one-two punch in the backfield, as out. Ford leads the Cardinal with 99 carries, 425 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns before leaving with injury against Florida State.

The Cardinal’s full availability report reads:

Probable: Quarterback Ben Gulbranson, running back Cole Tabb, cornerback Collin Wright, linebackers Wilfredo Aybar and Matt Rose, and offensive lineman Zak Yamuchi

Questionable: Linebacker Carter Davis and tight end Reiman Zebert

Out (first half): Safety Mitch Leigber (ejected late against FSU for targeting)

Out: Ford and fellow running back Tuna Altahir; wide receivers Jordan Onovughe, David Pantelis, Jason Thompson and JonAnthony Hall; safety Jay Green; cornerbacks Aaron Morris and Javion Randall; linebacker Drew Cunningham; tight end Zach Giuliano; defensive lineman R.J. Gaskins; and offensive linemen Nathan Mejia, Simione Pale, Nick Fattig and Jack Leyer.

Breaking down the ACC’s availability reports

The ACC this season began requiring teams to submit three availability reports before conference football games. The first is released two nights before the game (Wednesday in this case), the second the night before the game (Friday in this case) and the third two hours before kickoff (so 6 p.m. Saturday in this case).

Reports submitted before game day will have four potential designations: Available, probable, questionable and out. The league defines those four designations as follows...

Available: “Fully available to play in the game.”

Probable: “Likely to play; greater than 50% chance.”

Questionable: “Uncertain to play; less than 50% chance.”

Out: “Will not play in the game.”

The report released on game day have three status designations for players: Available, game time decision and out and are defined as follows

Available: “Fully available to play in the game.”

Game Time Decision: “Final decision will be made closer to the game.”

Out: “Will not play in the game.”
