The Miami Hurricanes opened conference play with a 28-22 road win against their in-state rival Florida State Seminoles on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Their latest statement win was reflected in their standing in the AP top 25 poll.

Miami checked in at No. 2 in the latest edition of the poll, released Sunday afternoon. It’s a one-spot improvement from last week. UM trails only the Ohio State Buckeyes, who have been ranked as thte top team since the second poll, and received 21 of 66 first-place votes.

The Hurricanes are 5-0 on the season, one of 11 Power 4 teams without a loss and the only one of those 11 with three wins over ranked opponents at the time of the game. Those wins are against then-No. 6 Notre Dame on Aug. 31, then-No. 18 USF on Sept. 13 and then-No. 18 Florida State on Saturday. It’s the first time since 2009 that Miami has won at least three games against ranked opponents in a season.

FSU fell to No. 25

But that was just one blip in a fair amount of movement in the poll on Sunday following several upsets. Top-10 teams in Penn State and Texas lost to UCLA and Florida, respectively, while Iowa State lost to Cincinnati. Vanderbilt also lost to Alabama in a matchup of ranked teams.

The new top 10 as a result: No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Oregon Ducks, No. 4 Ole Miss Rebels, No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies, No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners, No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers, No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide, No. 9 Texas Tech Red Raiders and No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs.

Penn State and Texas, respectively ranked No. 7 and No. 9 last week, fell out of the poll. Iowa State fell from No. 14 to No. 22.

Memphis and South Florida entered the poll at Nos. 23 and 24.

Miami is off this week before hosting Louisville on Oct. 17 at Hard Rock Stadium.
