As the third-ranked Miami Hurricanes prepare to open Atlantic Coast Conference play on Saturday against the No. 18 Florida State Seminoles (7:30 p.m., ABC), there is now formal clarity on the status with a few of UM’s injured players heading into the matchup.

The ACC requires teams to issue availability reports heading into conference games, with the first for the Miami-FSU game being released Thursday night.

And the first one for UM provided a positive note for three key players.

None of running back Jordan Lyle, wide receiver Joshisa “JoJo” Trader or offensive lineman Samson Okunlola were listed on the report, meaning they should be fully available for the game against FSU.

Neither Lyle nor Trader has played since Miami’s season opener against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Lyle started and had five carries for 11 yards. Trader played nine snaps and did not record a catch although he was targeted twice. Okunlola, meanwhile, briefly left Miami’s win over the Florida Gators but returned.

Multiple players have stepped up in their absence.

Mark Fletcher Jr. and CharMar “Marty” Brown have formed a formidable one-two punch at running back without Lyle. The two have combined for 594 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns through the Hurricanes’ first four games.

Meanwhile, Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels have been Miami’s primary pass catchers. Toney, a true freshman, leads the team with 22 catches and 268 yards with one touchdown catch. Daniels, a sixth-year senior, has 18 catches for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

Okunlola has split time at left guard with starter Matt McCoy. The former five-star prospect has graded out as Miami’s best pass blocker according to Pro Football Focus, receiving an 84.3 grade over 72 pass blocking snaps. He played a season-low 29 snaps against Florida while McCoy was on the field for 51 snaps.

Nine Miami players total were listed on the report, none of whom have factored into things for the team this season. Four Hurricanes players were listed as questionable in linebacker Bobby Washington Jr., wide receiver Chane Robinson, offensive lineman Yerovi Valdes Alfonso and defensive lineman Daylen Russel. Five players were listed as out: defensive lineman Hayden Lowe, tight ends Jackson Carver and Dylan Reiman, and offensive linemen Ralph Scroggins and Demetrius Campbell.

Meanwhile, FSU has four players listed as probable in quarterback Tommy Castellanos, running back Roydell Williams, wide receiver Jayvan Boggs and defensive lineman Kevin Wynn; three listed as questionable in running back Kam Davis, defensive back Ashlynd Barker and linebacker Caleb LaVallee; and three listed as out in defensive lineman Deamontae Diggs, tight end Chase Loftin and linebacker Ethan Pritchard.

Breaking down the ACC’s availability reports

The ACC this season began requiring teams to submit three availability reports before conference football games. The first is released two nights before the game (Thursday in this case), the second the night before the game (Friday in this case) and the third two hours before kickoff (so 5:30 p.m. Saturday in this case).

Reports submitted before game day will have four potential designations: Available, probable, questionable and out. The league defines those four designations as follows...

Available: “Fully available to play in the game.”

Probable: “Likely to play; greater than 50% chance.”

Questionable: “Uncertain to play; less than 50% chance.”

Out: “Will not play in the game.”

The report released on game day have three status designations for players: Available, game time decision and out and are defined as follows

Available: “Fully available to play in the game.”

Game Time Decision: “Final decision will be made closer to the game.”

Out: “Will not play in the game.”
