Six notable stats from No. 4 Miami Hurricanes’ win over the Florida Gators
The No. 4 Miami Hurricanes used a solid defensive effort and a gritty ground game to beat the Florida Gators 26-7 on Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium.
Here are six notable stats from the win.
0: The Hurricanes did not allow the Gators to convert a single third-down attempt, with UF going 0 for 13 on third down. According to the Associated press, it’s the first time since 2022 that a Football Bowl Subdivision team had at least 13 third-down attempts and failed to convert any of them. Miami is now allowing opponents to convert on third down just 24% of the time (12 for 50).
7: Miami held Florida to one touchdown on Saturday, a 7-yard rush by Jadan Baugh with 3:24 left in the third quarter. It’s just the fifth time in the past 22 meetings between UM and UF that one team was held to seven points or fewer. The others: UM in 2008 (a 26-3 Miami loss), UF in 1987 (a 31-4 Miami win), UM in 1983 (a 28-3 Miami loss) and UF in 1980 (a 31-7 Miami win).
141: The Miami defense held Florida to just 141 total yards of offense. It’s the first time since Dec. 4, 1999, that UF was held to that little yardage in a game and the first time since Nov. 4, 2006, that the Hurricanes held an FBS opponent to that little yardage in a game.
127: The one-two punch of Mark Fletcher Jr. and CharMar “Marty” Brown combined for 196 rushing yards on 42 attempts — a 4.7 yards per carry average — and three touchdowns on Saturday. UM had 184 rushing yards overall against the Gators. It’s the most rushing yards the Hurricanes have had in a game against the Gators since their meeting in 2002.
Perhaps the most impressive part of that: 127 of those yards from Fletcher and Brown — 64.8% — came after first contact. The two forced a combined five missed tackles as well.
And that doesn’t include the 45 yards that Brown had taken away when a 48-yard touchdown in the third quarter was reversed to just a 3-yard gain because officials ruled his forward motion was stopped.
160: Carson Beck on Saturday completed just 17 of 30 passes for 160 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. It tied for the fewest passing yards Beck has thrown for in a game he started during his collegiate career (excluding the 2024 SEC Championship Game he left with an injury).
The lackluster effort was truly an off night. He wasn’t pressured much (he had a clean pocket for 25 of his 31 dropbacks) but several of his throws were off target. There were two drops and two other passes were batted down. He went 0 for 6 on passes longer than 10 yards and more than half of his completions (nine) were behind the line of scrimmage.
58.6%: Miami’s defense put pressure on Florida quarterback DJ Lagway on 17 of his 29 dropbacks — 58.6% of the time, according to Pro Football Focus. It was the highest pressure rate by UM’s defense so far this season. Rueben Bain Jr. was involved in 10 of those pressures, while Akheem Mesidor was involved in nine.
Bain’s 22 quarterback pressures on the season are second nationally. Mesidor’s 19 are tied for seventh. The Hurricanes are the only team with two players ranked in the top 10 and one of just two schools with two players ranked in the top 20 (Texas Tech’s David Bailey and Romello Height are tied for third and tied for 13th, respectively).
