The Miami Hurricanes have their safety for the 2026 recruiting class.

Cortez Redding, a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports composite rankings out of Jonesboro (Georgia) High, on Friday announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. He chose Miami over Ole Miss, Indiana and N.C. State.

Redding is ranked as the No. 26 safety in the Class of 2026. Of Miami’s 22 commits this cycle, 17 are considered blue-chip prospects (either four- or five-star recruits) according to the 247Sports composite ranking.

Listed at 6-0 and 175 pounds, Redding recorded 118 tackles, six tackles for loss, three interceptions and 10 defended passes as a junior for Jonesboro last season.

Redding is Miami’s first safety for the class and helps quell a, relatively speaking, dry spell on the recruiting trail for the Hurricanes. He is UM’s third pledge of the month, joining four-star cornerback Brody Jennings out of Jacksonville Mandarin on July 5 and four-star wide receiver Somourian Wingo from St. Augustine on July 17.

But in that span, the Hurricanes also missed out on several key targets, including a pair of local talents in five-star Miami Northwestern wide receiver Calvin Russell to Syracuse and four-star Chaminade-Madonna running back Derrek Cooper to Texas.
