The Miami Hurricanes had a busy Saturday with the transfer portal, landing their first three pledges from the spring window

The trio: Former N.C. State linebacker Kamal Bonner, former Texas kicker Bert Auburn and former BYU wide receiver Keelan Merion.

All three additions were at positions of need.

Bonner, who just finished his redshirt freshman season with the Wolfpack, will have three seasons of eligibility remaining and have a chance to compete for a starting job this fall. Miami’s primary linebackers prior to Bonner’s addition were Wesley Bissainthe, Jaylin Alderman and Raul “Popo” Aguirre.

Bonner, listed at 6-2 and 215 pounds, started seven of 12 games he played for N.C. State last year, notching 56 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and one sack.

Auburn, who has one year of eligibility remaining, has made 66 of 86 career field goals (76.7 percent), including 24 of 39 from at least 40 yards. The Hurricanes lost Andres Borregales, who set the school record for career points and field-goal percentage, and backup Abram Murray entered the transfer portal.

Merion, who also has one year of eligibility remaining, has 76 career catches for 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns over 42 games (23 starts) across four seasons — two apiece with UConn and BYU. He also had two kickoff returns for touchdowns last season.
