Miami Hurricanes kicker Andres Borregales drafted by New England Patriots in sixth round

Kicker Andres Borregales became an instant impact player for the Miami Hurricanes as soon as he joined the team.

He now has the opportunity to make his case in the NFL.

The New England Patriots selected Borregales in the sixth round, No. 182 overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. Borregales was the first kicker selected in the draft, and the first Hurricanes kicker selected in the draft since Carlos Huerta in 1992.

Over his four-year career, Borregales made 74 of 86 field goals and 183 of 184 point-after attempts. His 405 total points scored are a UM record, as is his 86 percent field-goal mark.

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein praised Borregales’ “reputation for being accurate and clutch. The keys to Borregales’ accuracy are his repeatable stroke and consistent ball-striking. He doesn’t have a cannon for a right leg but he has enough power to hit from distance at an admirable clip. He has a good chance to win a pro job as a rookie.”
