The last neutral site game between the two teams was in February 27, 2004, when the Hurricanes beat the Panthers 9-7 at Homestead Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series between FIU 105-31 and owns a 6-1 advantage against the Panthers in neutral-site games.
“We’re obviously very excited and grateful for the opportunity to play on the big stage of loadDepot Park, and we’d like to thank the Miami Marlins for organizing this experience,” Hurricanes coach J.D. Arteaga said.
Added FIU coach Rich Witten: “This crosstown showdown is a huge win for everyone involved including FIU, U.M. and baseball fans in Miami. This is an exciting opportunity for our program and our players to play in a MLB stadium. I want to thank the Marlins, FIU’s administration, and Miami for coming together to make this happen. It will be a special night of baseball in this great city.”
The Hurricanes are 4-1 to start the season entering Saturday’s doubleheader against Princeton. FIU is 6-0 entering its Saturday game against Delaware.
Miami and FIU will play three other times during the regular season: April 2 and May 7 at the Hurricanes’ Mark Light Field and March 4 at FIU. The Hurricanes won three of four games against the Panthers last season.
