The Miami Hurricanes’ retooling of their secondary continues as another contributor from the 2024 team departs.

D’Yoni Hill, a junior who played one season at Miami after spending his first two seasons at Marshall, is entering the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports on Thursday.

Hill played in 11 games for the Hurricanes in 2024, recording 33 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. With injuries to both Damari Brown and Jadais Richard, he started five games, although he did not play in the final two games of the regular season.

Hill is the sixth defensive back to leave Miami via the portal. Cornerbacks Robby Washington, Robert Stafford and Myles Mooyoung along with safeties Jaden Harris and Isaiah Thomas are the others. Two other Hurricanes starters in the secondary — cornerback Daryl Porter Jr. and safety Mishael Powell — are also gone as they are out of collegiate eligibility.

As UM retools its secondary, it will have OJ Frederique (who excelled most of his freshman year) as its top returning cornerback along with Brown and Richard as they return from injury. The team also has commitments from Charles Brantley and Emmanuel Karnley coming in via the transfer portal. At safety, Zaquan Patterson, Markieth Williams and Jacksonville State transfer Zechariah Poyser lead the group.

The Hurricanes also have four defensive backs signed in their 2025 recruiting class: Four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald, four-star cornerback Amari Wallace, four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine and four-star cornerback Chris Ewald.
