Eye on the U: Miami Hurricanes’ wild win over Virginia Tech sets up long trip to Cal

The Miami Hurricanes remain undefeated after rallying to beat the Virginia Tech Hokies in a wild, come-from-behind, 38-34 victory on Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

The game had a little bit of everything: Early Miami struggles, an impressive second-half comeback, spectacular plays late (hello, Elijah Arroyo, Cam Ward, Xavier Restrepo and Riley Williams) and, fittingly, an extended review on a game-deciding Virginia Tech Hail Mary on the final play that ultimately went in the Hurricanes’ favor.

The Hurricanes aren’t discounting any win they get — the chaos that is college football makes every win valuable, no matter how it comes — but Miami also knows there’s a lot to clean up from this one as it continues Atlantic Coast Conference play.

In the first episode of the revitalized Eye of the U show, Miami Hurricanes beat writer Jordan McPherson and host/deputy sports editor Andre Fernandez dive into the Virginia Tech game, analyzing the positives and negatives that came from the outing. After that, they preview what’s to come with No. 8 Miami (5-0, 1-0 ACC) making a cross-country trip to face the Cal Golden Bears (3-1, 0-1 ACC) on Saturday in Berkeley, California, with the game scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. kickoff and being the site of ESPN’s College GameDay.
