Damari Brown sat at the table inside the Plantation American Heritage gymnasium Wednesday afternoon with his dad Selwyn to his right, his older brother Davonte to his left.

It was decision time.

And when it was all said an done, Brown decided he was staying close to home.

The four-star cornerback announced Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, that he is signing with the Miami Hurricanes over the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida State Seminoles.

Brown, the No. 22 overall cornerback in the Class of 2023 according to the 247 Sports composite ranking, was one of two American Heritage players to sign with the Hurricanes on Wednesday, joining four-star running back Mark Fletcher.

“Just a lot of emotion [went] into it,” Brown said shortly after making the decision. “Never thought I’d get to this moment. My whole life, I worked for this. Just seeing it come in front of me was a dream come true.”

Brown finished his senior season with 43 tackles, 15 defended passes, two interceptions, three tackles for loss, one sack, and a fumble recovery as he helped American Heritage reach the Class 2M state championship game.

Now, the focus shifts to his college career, which will have a familial feel to it. Brown is the son of former Hurricanes defensive back Selwyn Brown, who won a national title with the Hurricanes in 1987. His older brother, Davonte Brown, is also heading to UM as a fourth-year junior after spending his first three college seasons with the UCF Knights.

“I tried to do what was best for me, but that’s a plus,” Brown said. “I’ll be taken care of down there. My brother’s coming with me, so that’s a plus. He’ll take me under his wing. We’re going to work.”

Eight players total from American Heritage signed on Wednesday. In addition to Brown and Fletcher, star wide receiver Brandon Inniss signed with Ohio State, defensive back Daemon Fagan and long snapper Aiden Arias signed with North Carolina State, quarterback Blake Murphy signed with Louisiana-Monroe, defensive back Shamar McNeil signed with Missouri and defensive lineman Victor King signed with Air Force.
