Three Miami Hurricanes earn first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors
As frustrating as the 2019 season was for the Miami Hurricanes, they still placed three players on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team Tuesday — tied for second most in the conference.
Tight end Brevin Jordan, defensive lineman Gregory Rousseau and linebacker Shaquille Quarterman all got first-team nods from the panel, made up of 46 media members and all 14 coaches. Only the Clemson Tigers had more players selected as first-team all-conference with eight. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Pittsburgh Panthers both had three players earn first-team honors.
Jordan and Rousseau were both relative no-brainers as first-team selections. Jordan is a finalist for the John Mackey Award, handed out to the nation’s top tight end, and his 495 receiving yards are 15th among tight ends despite playing just a handful of snaps in Miami’s final three games. The sophomore still leads the Hurricanes in receiving yards, and his 35 catches are third on the team. He also caught two touchdowns.
Rousseau finished the regular season as the most productive pass rusher in the conference. The redshirt freshman led the ACC with 14 sacks and 18 tackles for loss despite coming off the bench in Miami’s first four games. His 14 sacks are also third in the country, and he finished the regular season with 49 total tackles, a pass defended and two forced fumbles.
Quarterman had a slow start to the season, but came on strong at the end and finished 10th in the ACC with 96 total tackles and third with 15 1/2 tackles for loss. The senior, who set a Hurricanes record by making his 51st consecutive start Saturday in Miami’s 27-17 loss to the Duke Blue Devils, also has one sack, two passes defended, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
The Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4) also had two players selected to the other All-ACC teams. Linebacker Michael Pinckney was a second-team selection after he finished the regular season with 54 total tackles, 12 1/2 tackles for loss, five sacks and two passes defended. The senior’s tackles for loss were ninth in the ACC.
Cornerback Trajan Bandy was named an honorable mention. The junior finished the regular season with 29 tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks, eight passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Clemson had the most overall players named to the all-conference first, second and third teams with 16. Wake Forest and Pittsburgh each had eight, and the Boston College Eagles and North Carolina Tar Heels both had seven.
