Miami Hurricanes schedule another home-and-home series against an SEC opponent
The Miami Hurricanes have lined up a home-and-home series with a Southeastern Conference opponent.
Miami agreed to a home-and-home deal with the South Carolina Gamecocks for the 2026 and 2027 season, a source told the Herald. The Hurricanes also announced the agreement Tuesday in a news release.
“We are excited to add South Carolina to our future football schedule,” athletic director Blake James said in the release. “These two matchups will be a terrific showcase for both fan bases, and it furthers our commitment to scheduling top programs for our nonconference slate.”
The two-year deal begins with a trip up to Columbia, South Carolina, for Miami in 2026. The Hurricanes will play the Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium on Sept. 5, 2026. They will then host South Carolina at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Sept. 11, 2027.
The agreement means the Hurricanes will play an SEC opponent in seven consecutive seasons beginning in 2021. Miami will play a neutral-site game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2021 in Atlanta, play a home-and-home with the Texas A&M Aggies in 2022 and 2023, and play a home-and-home with the Florida Gators in 2024 and 2025. The Hurricanes will also play a home-and-home with the Michigan State Spartans in 2020 and 2021.
Miami last played the Gamecocks in 2014 in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. South Carolina won to snap a six-game losing streak in the series, which the Hurricanes lead 8-6-2. Miami last hosted the Gamecocks in 1987 at the Miami Orange Bowl, beating South Carolina in the regular-season finale to cap an undefeated regular season on the way to winning the national championship. The Hurricanes and last traveled to Columbia in 1986 for a game Miami also won.
The Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast) finished this season on a two-game losing streak and now await their bowl fate. South Carolina finished the regular season 4-7 and missed a bowl game for the first time since 2015.
