Another record-breaking day in steamy South Florida. Here’s what to expect this week
It’s been a lot hotter than normal in South Florida lately. It seems like soaring temperatures have become the theme of this summer.
After a week of heat advisories, the National Weather Service in Miami issued a excessive heat warning for Miami-Dade and Broward counties through 8 p.m. Sunday.
While temperatures are in the upper 90s, it may feel about 110 to 113 degrees outside.
Sunday also broke heat records in Miami, with the temperature hitting 98 degrees. While another scorching week is expected, a heat advisory hasn’t yet been declared for the days ahead.
Lots of sun ahead
The sun will continue roasting Miami Monday, with a high of 94 degrees expected.
Tuesday should be just as hot, with a high of 92 degrees. The NWS also predicts a 40% chance for thunderstorms through Tuesday night.
Wednesday, the high will likely drop to 90 degrees, though showers are likely.
How to stay safe
▪ Avoid direct sunlight. If outside, find shady areas and reduce physical activity.
▪ Wait until morning or evening to do outdoor activities.
▪ Drink plenty of water or drinks with electrolytes. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
▪ Use sunscreen to protect against skin damage and stave off dehydration.
▪ Never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
