We just hit record heat, so why is this forecaster now telling Miami to wear a jacket?
Miami and Fort Lauderdale tied a record high 88 on Sunday set for that March 9 date in 2003. The high only dropped a degree Monday to reach 87 after lunch.
Tuesday’s weather forecast comes as a bit of a surprise.
“We have some chilly mornings ahead, so big changes,” said meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez of Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami. “Sweaters and jackets just when you thought you were done with that.”
That’s because Monday’s warm southwest winds over 20 mph, with gusts hitting 33 mph, is ushering in some strong storms from Central Florida toward the Miami area.
The National Weather Service in Miami issued a wind advisory for Monday with potential gusts of 35 mph through 8 p.m.
Monday’s rush hour thunderstorm potential could plunge Tuesday morning lows to the 56- to 58-degree range from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, with 60s in the Keys.
These chilly mornings with “mild, perfect afternoons,” will persist a couple of days, Gonzalez said.
Temperatures into the weekend
Here’s what CBS’ Next Weather forecasts for highs and lows for the rest of the week. After Monday’s threat, there should be no more rain into the weekend. Sunny skies ahead.
▪ Tuesday: Expect a high of 77 by mid-day after the mid- to upper-50s morning.
▪ Wednesday Forecast runs from 59 to 78.
▪ Thursday Begins a warmer 64 morning to 81 afternoon.
▪ Friday Range should be 66 to 83 and into warm weekend.
▪ Saturday Starts at 70 before climbing to 84. Sunday eyes 72 and 85.
