Get ready for the start of rainy season in Florida — but you’ll feel another change, too

Sunday is the official start of the rainy season in South Florida.

But rain isn’t the big story for this weekend — though the chance for scattered thunderstorms is ever possible each afternoon.

Rather, the change you should expect to feel is the return of summer heat after the last few days of comfy low-80s temperatures.

Look for the 90s to resume Sunday and into the week, with the heat index nearing 100 by mid-week.

There are some immediate weather warnings to heed, however.

Meteorologist Sammy Hadi at the weather service warns of possible minor coastal flooding for South Florida’s east coast through Monday. He also notes a high risk of rip currents along beaches from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach counties as the surf slowly subsides over the next couple of days.

Bright days ahead for the Florida Keys — just a slight chance of showers for the next week and a gradual warming into mid-week.
