Passover looks to be a wash for Miami-Dade and Broward with heavy rain in the forecast.

These afternoon thunderstorms are expected to bring strong winds, possible quarter-sized hail and a chance for localized flooding along the east coast, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.

According to CBS4 meteorologist Austin Carter, Friday’s strongest storms should pop up around 1 p.m. in Miami-Dade and Broward and then linger into the rush hour. Key Largo is looking at a 50% chance of storms around 3 p.m., according to the weather service.

East winds will be near 10 mph and there is also a moderate risk of rip currents along beaches from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach counties so know this if you’re heading for a dip in the ocean before the afternoon soaking.

Temperatures reach a high of 85 degrees around 2 p.m. and then drop to 79 as the 5 p.m. rains cool things off a bit, NBC6 meteorologist Adam Berg predicts.

The rains taper off to a 30% chance in the evening.

What will Easter bring?

Expect nicer weather Saturday and on Easter Sunday in South Florida.

The weather service is calling for just a 20% chance of rain but some passing and scattered isolated thunderstorms could still bring wind and lightning to the kids’ Easter egg hunt. Rain chances bump up to 40% Monday.
