After wet start, Miami’s event-filled weekend will be glorious. Here’s how cool it’ll get

Bet you woke real early Friday morning if you’re in South Florida.

Unless you’re a sound sleeper it would have been hard not to hear that heavy rain falling outside.

The east coast opened to a soggy and stormy start, the National Weather Service in Miami said — as forecast.

Temperatures followed suit by falling into the mid-60s.

Now, this weekend in South Florida has much going on outdoors — Ultra in downtown Miami, spring break on South Beach, the Miami Open in Miami Gardens, the Youth Fair in Tamiami — to name several events that lure lots of people under the open skies.

“Not to worry!” the weather service gleefully tweeted around 6 a.m. after the morning rains. Clearing skies are expected later Friday and plenty of sun Saturday and Sunday as the cold front passes through South Florida bringing pleasant temperatures from 64 to 75 degrees Friday and into the weekend.

“What a treat,” an optimistic meteorologist tweeted.

Saturday morning everyone in town for all of the big March events will wake to temperatures that range from lows of 57 in the Redland to 58 in Homestead, Kendall and Coral Springs to 61 in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and 64 in the Keys, says CBS 4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.

That temperature range will remain on Sunday, she said, and then beautiful skies ahead. “Get outside and enjoy it,” Gonzalez said.

Friday morning also saw a small craft advisory for all coastal waters issued by the weather service in Key West.

Elevated fire weather conditions are also possible this weekend through Thursday after the minor cold front given dry and breezy days ahead.
