Enjoy the weekend ‘cold front,’ South Florida. Next week will feel like triple digits
Enjoy Saturday’s high of 81 degrees on your socially distant walks and runs around the block today because that is what amounts to a cold front in South Florida this week.
The National Weather Service in Miami issued a hazardous weather outlook, since the heat is coming back on again midweek with temperatures in the 90s but heat indices in the lower 100s — what it will really feel like.
Some thunderstorms are also forecast for late Saturday afternoon — a 40% chance, according to the Weather Channel’s meteorologists.
Still, given it’s been such a while since South Florida has had any real rain, our browning lawns and the new bougainvilleas we bought to put some color in our yards as we look out our windows will take those odds.
The thunderstorm chance dips to 20% Sunday before yielding to another stretch of sunny and breezy days before Thursday climbs back to a 20% chance of some rain.
So why is this considered a hazard?
Mostly because of lightning strikes and since it has been so dry meteorologists warn that the risk of fires are a concern in the traditionally dry season into much of May.
National outlook
Most of Florida is going to avoid the nasty weather forecast for Easter weekend for many southern states stretching from Texas to the southeast.
Parts of North Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee could see tornadoes and flooding, The Weather Channel warns.
