Woman wounded in a shooting on I-95 in Miami-Dade that shut lanes for hours, police say

A woman is in the hospital after she was shot at early Monday while driving on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County, police say.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 in the area of Northwest 103rd Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car’s driver was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, according to Miami-Dade police, which is taking the lead in the investigation.

Miami-Dade police had mistakenly reported at first that the woman had died in the hospital. On Monday afternoon, they said they learned she was still alive, but did not have a condition.

A stretch of the interstate was closed for hours during the investigation, with drivers heading north forced to exit at Northwest 79th Street.

The woman’s car could be seen on the side of the road with a yellow tarp covering the driver’s side window near the Northwest 103rd Street exit. Lanes reopened shortly before 1 p.m.

Anyone with information that can help with the investigation should call police.

Note: This article was updated to reflect new information from police. Miami-Dade police reported wrong information Monday morning that the woman had died from her injuries. In the afternoon, they said the woman was still alive.
