‘Sweet’ pup saved from dog fighting. Now, she needs family to show her ‘true love’
A “sweet” pup was saved from a dog-fighting ring — and now, she needs a home.
“After everything I’ve been through, all I want is a cozy home, a warm bed, and a family to show me what true love feels like,” a Florida animal shelter said in an online adoption profile written from the perspective of Arlene the dog.
Arlene is up for adoption after being “rescued from a dog fighting cruelty case.” She was at a federal facility before landing at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Brevard in January, the shelter wrote online and in an email to McClatchy News.
“Despite her past, Arlene has been nothing but sweet and in great spirits since arriving,” Shelby Hicks, public relations and community engagement coordinator for the shelter, wrote in the March 26 email. “She’s friendly with everyone she meets, including kids, and has a love for playtime especially if it involves fetch.”
So, it may come as no surprise that Arlene most enjoys being around people and tennis balls. Photos posted on Facebook show the 5-year-old pup admiring both.
“Get you someone who looks at you like Arlene looks at her favorite things,” the shelter wrote in the caption.
Arlene also has become known as a “compact cuddle buddy” who has gone exploring outside the shelter through the Borrowed Buddies program. Ideally, she would be the only pet in her next home “so she can soak up all the love she deserves.”
As of March 27, the shelter’s website listed the mixed-breed pup among the animals waiting for new owners. Details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at spcabrevard.com.
“I know my cropped ears might make me look tough, but I’m just a big sweetheart who wants to love and be loved,” the shelter wrote from Arlene’s perspective. “I’m always up for an adventure, whether it’s a car ride, a walk in the park, or just playing with my favorite toys.”
The SPCA is in Titusville, a roughly 40-mile drive east from Orlando.
