‘Sweet’ dog has been adopted and returned 6 times. ‘Hopes are high’ as she waits again
A loving dog has been adopted and returned six times — and now, she needs another home.
“Our hopes are high for this sweet girl,” a Florida animal shelter wrote Feb. 18 in a Facebook post. “And we’re hoping her next adoption, her seventh adoption, will be her last.”
Orange County Animal Services said Autumn the dog waits for a new owner after a journey that started in September.
“Fitting to her name, this poor girl originally came to us as a stray back in the fall of last year,” the Orlando-based shelter wrote. “Autumn has then been adopted and returned multiple times, by people who had her for less than 12 days each time. Once was due to not checking with the landlord, once was due to separation anxiety (although they only had her for 2 days that time), and one was due to not getting along with the other dog in the home.”
Autumn is described as a “bundle of affection” who loves playing fetch. At one point, she basked in the opportunity to go on an adventure outside the shelter.
“Her adorable expressions, marked by lively eyes and forehead wrinkles, were absolutely captivating,” a volunteer wrote in her online adoption profile. “Autumn’s desire for cuddles and affection was heartwarming, and by day’s end, she was peacefully sprawled out on the backseat of the car, exhausted.”
Autumn is a 3-year-old pup who’s loaded with energy, a video posted in January shows. The shelter has enrolled her at a center that offers pet training and playtime.
“We know Autumn is a high energy dog, and we let people know this,” the shelter wrote. “Autumn is also sweet, gentle, and very affectionate. She loves treats, loves people, gets along with other dogs, and now and then, she likes to jump. And jump. And jump some more.”
As of Feb. 21, the shelter’s website still listed Autumn among the animals in need of homes. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.
“All dogs, not just the adopted ones, will require some work and a high level of commitment from their owners,” the shelter wrote in its January post about Autumn. “Dogs aren’t machines; they’re not toys or accessories. They are living creatures, with moods, quirks, likes and dislikes. They will take some work, but in the end it will be worth it.”
Orange County Animal Services didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Feb. 21.
