A senior dog with a “spirit that refuses to age” needs a new home — and so does his best friend.

As the two wait for a second chance, a Florida shelter said the 11-year-old dogs “would love to be adopted together.”

“Though they may have a little gray in their fur, don’t let their age fool you,” the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Brevard wrote in a past Facebook post. “They are full of energy and love.”

Tobias and his canine friend, Annie Oakley, are up for adoption after their past owner went into assisted living and couldn’t keep them. They were surrendered to another shelter and landed at the SPCA in March, the shelter wrote in online posts and told McClatchy News in an Aug. 21 email.

The shelter in Titusville, a roughly 40-mile drive east from Orlando, isn’t requiring that the senior dogs go into the same home. But it said the pair has become known as an “iconic duo.”

“They’ve got more pep in their step than a pair of puppies,” the SPCA wrote. “They are the epitome of sibling love, whether it’s playing fetch or enjoying leisurely walks, these two are always in sync. They get along famously with adults and older teenagers, making them the ultimate companions for movie marathons and late-night snack runs.”

Tobias is known as a spunky dog who loves hugs and is “young at heart.” He’s timid when he first meets people but becomes more comfortable after getting treats, according to a Aug. 20 Facebook post.

Annie Oakley, who bears the same name as a famous markswoman, is also described as a shy dog who warms up when playing fetch.

“If Annie were a person, she’d be the grandma who shows up at the park in a tracksuit, ready to school everyone on the court — and maybe hustle a few bucks while she’s at it,” the SPCA wrote on Facebook.

After spending months in the shelter, the mixed-breed dogs’ online adoption profiles were still active as of Aug. 22. More details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at spcabrevard.com.
