A mama dog has watched other pups get adopted while “struggling to stand out” at a Florida shelter.

After almost two months of waiting, Gigi still needs a home of her own.

“For so many dogs in our shelter, we never get to see where they came from, but for Gigi we know she wasn’t in the best hands,” Orange County Animal Services wrote Aug. 5 on Facebook. “We want the best for her now.”

Though Gigi is now “thriving,” she went through a rough patch. She was rescued with eight other dogs after they reportedly were found without water near a “defunct” building. Their owner was experiencing homelessness and couldn’t secure an appropriate place for them to live, the shelter said.

“The Gigi we met back on June 17 was a different dog, in poor condition, fearful and apprehensive to approach anyone,” animal services wrote. “She was found behind the remnants of a burned down, vacated restaurant.”

Now, Gigi is described as a “friendly,” healthy 4-year-old pup who’s becoming more relaxed. The shelter in an online adoption profile didn’t share her breed or say why she’s being overlooked.

“All of Gigi’s puppies have been adopted,” animal services wrote. “She remains here, struggling to stand out, now approaching her 50th day in our care. She’s seen many of her roommates over recent weeks land new homes, while she waits.”

As of Aug. 6, Gigi was still listed among the pets available for adoption at the shelter in Orlando. More details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.

Orange County Animal Services didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Aug. 6.
