A rodent problem halted a Palm Beach Dollar General’s food and drink delivery for 6 days
Another visit by state inspectors Wednesday deemed a Dollar General store in unincorporated Palm Beach County worthy of receiving new food and beverage deliveries after a rodent-caused shutdown.
Since a July 13 inspection, the Dollar General at 3969 N. Haverhill Rd. couldn’t have new food and drink things. That’s when Florida Department of Agriculture inspectors Stephen Collins and Kashlor Webb dropped Stop-Use Orders on the store’s dry storage and its receiving area for food, beverage and single use items.
This was after seeing “rodent droppings and harborage area in the backstock area near the receiving door, and rodent droppings on on floor and shelves by the rack near the mop sink.”
Ag Department inspectors can’t shut an entire establishment down. But, they can put Stop-Use Orders on areas and equipment and Stop Sale Orders on food.
When inspectors returned Monday, the store hoped they would release the storage and receiving areas. Instead...
“Rodent droppings on shelves by the mop sink. Dead rodent under shelving by the mop sink. Stop-Use Orders still in place.”

In an email to the Miami Herald, Dollar General’s corporate office said “We are disappointed our store standards at our Palm Beach store fell short of both our customers’ and our own expectations. We took immediate action to address these concerns and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We remain committed to be a positive business partner and good community neighbor.”
