Rodents might cause a South Florida Walgreens to be prevented from getting new food

An inspection that will happen at the latest Thursday will determine whether a West Palm Beach Walgreens can continue to receive food items.

Thursday would be two weeks after state inspectors found signs of rodents at the 2050 45th St. Walgreens. That caused a “Re-Inspection Required” inspection result, the worst result for a Florida Department of Agriculture inspection and one that usually means another inspection 14 days later.

Ag Department inspectors check out packaged food sellers, from supermarkets down to bookstores, as well as bakeries, food storage, distribution and processing facilities. Unlike Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspections of restaurants, an Ag Department failed inspection doesn’t close the establishment.

But inspectors can slap Stop-Use Orders on equipment and areas.

“If evidence of pest infestation is observed on the next inspection, a Stop-Use Order will be issued on all receiving areas of the establishment and the establishment will no longer be allowed to receive additional food items...” the bottom of the July 6 inspection says.

Inspectors Stephen Collins and Kashlor Webb could have issued a Stop-Use Order on the backroom area after the July 6 inspection, but noted, “All products removed, all areas were cleaned and sanitized during visit.”

This was after they noticed “Visible light at the bottom of the delivery door in storage room,” and a “hole in the wall behind backstock carts.”

Those are violations because they can lead to “Rodent droppings and harborage in the backstock area near the receiving door and under grey [sic] storage shelves.”
